Lisa Burnell

Lisa Burnell

Lisa Burnell was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. Having owned her first camera at the age of seven, she now works full time in Cape Town as a visual anthropologist using photography to tell the stories of people and their places, while teaching photography in the local rural townships part time. With a background in photojournalism and currently completing her studies in Human Sciences, Lisa is currently working on ways of using photography and story telling to address the complex issues around South African homelessness.

Lisa has recently returned from India where she was documenting and uncovering the creative arts industry as she delved through the journey of Mumbai’s cultural history to uncover the lessons of what it is that makes Mumbai the vibrantly techni-coloured and perpetual heartbeat that it is. She plans to open a photography school in India soon.
