Edson Chagas


Edson Chagas was born in 1977 in Luanda, Angola. He currently resides and works at the Luanda A Palazzo Gallery G 11. He pursued an FdA Degree in Photojournalism at the University of the Arts London from the London College of Communications. He then went on to study Documentary Photography at the University of Wales, Newport.

Chagas employs photography as a process through which he investigates daily life but also uses images that condone and critique consumerism in modern society. Lately Chagas has received great acclaim. This year, the 55th Venice Biennale presented the Angola pavilion with the prestigious Golden Lion for Best National Participation, of which, Chagas was the principal exhibitor with his photographic installation under the pavilion's title, Luanda, Encyclopedic City. His works have been featured in many exhibitions such as in Italy: Landscapes, A Palazzo Galley, Brescia; Nigeria: Live Festival, Lagos; Cameroon: RAVY-International Visual Arts Festival, Yaoundé.
