Dr Khan is a development economist with a special interest in Education, Agriculture, Health and Financial Inclusion. For two years, he led the strategy, management and policy division of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in India. He has also served as Director at the India Development Foundation and as Deputy Secretary General at the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is Honorary President at the Glocal University in Saharanpur and Consultant to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He has been an Adjunct Professor of Business and Law at the Edith Cowan University in Perth, Western Australia. He teaches a course on Indian Economic Policy at the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad at its Centre for Executive Education. He is a member of the Mont Pelerin Society.

Amir worked as Researcher for the Ministry of Finance, Government of India and the UNDP at Project LARGE (Legal Adjustments and Reforms for Globalising the Economy). He has also been Academic Head at the Indian School of Finance and Management, Bangalore after which he worked with Encyclopedia Britannica as Executive Director and Editor. Amir studied Electronics and Communication Engineering at Osmania University, Hyderabad and Rural Management at the Institute of Rural Management, Anand and has a PhD from the Jamia Millia Central University at New Delhi. His latest book for The Academic Foundation is titled Common Property Resource Management: A focus on Forestry, edited with Dr Mousumi Majumdar. He has previously authored States of the Indian Economy with Harsh Vivek that analyses regional and inter-state diversity in India especially with respect to Agriculture, Public health and Education and the Net Impact of Infrastructure Development.
