Anoothi Kumar
2012-13

INDIA

"Participating in the INDIAFRICA Essay Writing competition 2013 was an intellectually stimulating and deeply rewarding experience. The rigorous research, conceptualisation and understanding brought deep insights to my own understanding of developmental catalysts that can trigger socio-economic progress. My focus was on bridging the development gap in India and Africa through initiatives in education and the process helped me to enhance my own vision for a cause I feel deeply for. The competition helped me to connect with international participants, find a platform for my ideas and generously awarded my good work with reward money, a certificate and merchandise. It was a truly fulfilling experience."

Sreya Mallika Datta
2012-13

INDIA

"It was one lazy afternoon in college that a big poster caught my attention, inviting entries for various competitions, organized by INDIAFRICA. Though the modern world is "westernized", in the general sense of the term, looking at the poster made me think beyond a single way of life and entertain the notion that there are infinite possibilities just waiting to be realized. Writing for the contest made me learn more about Africa, an entire continent that has been neglected and largely kept out of the radar of public thought and discussion. Not only that, participating in the Essay Writing Competition led me to discover several interesting and previously unknown facets about my own country, India. Participating in this contest was unlike participating in any other, because not only did it make me feel that I could possibly be a contributor to the formation of a new collective world, but I also felt that a strong bond unconsciously exists in our psyche and writing for the competition made me realize this connection, leading to a feeling of solidarity and unity."

Deepa Sastry
2012-13

INDIA

"At the outset, I would like to thank the team of IdeaWorks for creating such a wonderful platform to share our views. It is a matter of immense pride to have been a part of such an important initiative - INDIAFRICA. What attracted me to the INDIAFRICA Essay contest was the freedom given to the writer about the topic. The idea was simple - to explore opportunities of INDIAAFRICA Collaboration and the audience was not restricted to write on a particular subject, theme or to maintain a strict code of writing. This liberty allowed me to choose a topic of my interest and since the choice of the content was left to the writer, I could emphasize on points that I perceived as important for the collaboration."

Ewulum Clement
2011-12

NIGERIA

"Being a part of the pioneer contestants in the INDIAFRICA programme in 2011/12 made me feel like a part of a larger family; like a global circle, interacting and brainstorming on the way forward for India, Africa and the world at large.

Having emerged a winner in that contest, there is no other way to describe my feelings at that time; as I felt what and how every winner feels – self satisfaction, zeal and poise to do more, accomplishment, strength of character, more confidence in myself and my literature works."
